What it saved. What your Index learned.
Every month, the Ledger shows what you spent on outside counsel, what Orelis saved, and how your Index grew. The savings are estimated from hours with and without Orelis, and the two measures of return are never combined into one number.
Outside counsel spend before Orelis, spend with Orelis, and the difference, estimated and labeled as such. Positions captured, decisions recorded and standards upheld sit beside the money, so the CFO and the deal team read the same page.
Your first year on Orelis
Illustrative: about $5M of outside counsel spend; every figure here is sample data. Savings are estimated from hours with and without Orelis.
Two questions. Two numbers. Never one.
Counsel spend reduction
What Orelis saved, divided by your whole legal bill. It answers one question: how much smaller is the bill?
Return on Orelis
What Orelis saved, divided by what you paid Orelis. It answers a different one: what did the engagement return?
Each is computed against the deal's actual cost of counsel, not a blended rate. Because they answer different questions, they are never summed or averaged into a single figure.
The record, beside the money.
The Ledger keeps a running count of your Index: positions captured, decisions made by a named person, departures from a position you will not move and whether each has been decided, the deals, and the counterparties across the table. Growth is the other half of the return, and it is the half that does not leave when a person does.
